Overview
Gary Strickland is a long-time State of Arizona Administrative Law Judge and the former Maricopa County Public Fiduciary. With decades of experience, he focuses his practice on probate and estate controversies, Elder Law matters involving allegations of abuse or exploitation, administrative proceedings, and general civil litigation. Known for his skill in negotiation and dispute resolution, Gary also serves as an arbitrator and mediator in complex legal matters.
Experience
Gary’s career includes significant public service, having worked as a Deputy County Attorney in the Civil Division and later as Senior General Counsel for Maricopa County. He also served for many years as a Maricopa County Superior Court Pro Tem in civil and probate proceedings, covering judicial dockets and conducting settlement conferences. Prior to joining Aprio Legal, Gary was a partner at a well-established Phoenix law firm for nearly a decade.
In 2018, he was appointed to a four-year term on the Disciplinary and Ethics Commission of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards in Washington, D.C. He also chaired the Executive Committee of the State Bar of Arizona’s Elder Law, Mental Health and Special Needs Planning Section from 2020 to 2021.
Gary has represented professionals, including doctors, dentists, nurses, and fiduciaries, in administrative licensing matters before Arizona state regulatory boards. He also counsels healthcare entities on issues of patient capacity, consent, and related matters, and has served as an expert witness in these areas.
Beyond his legal practice, Gary has presented at numerous CLE seminars on healthcare, evidence, administrative, and probate law, and is a frequent speaker on theology and history. He has taught at the high school, university, and graduate levels, covering subjects from Latin and Greek to history, contract law, and administrative law.
